This week it happens that Bill is in town on business so we all decided to see how an episode recorded in Dennis' house would go. Here it is. We spend our time skimming videos that Dennis recorded to his DVR from a few recent episodes of MTV Classic's Metal Mayhem and commenting on the videos and the artists. Yeah, we know, Beavis & Butthead already did that. Anyway, let us know what you thought of the format. Please share the link to this episode with your friends and enemies.
This episode isn't really a fiasco, we just felt like calling it that. We haven't done an episode of us just chatting about random stuff in a while so we thought it was as good a time as any. Enjoy!
The Wrecking Crew is a 2008 documentary film that covers the story of the Los Angeles-based group of session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew, famed for having played on numerous hit recordings throughout the 1960s. Filmmaker and producer Denny Tedesco talks about the putting the documentary together and his highs and lows throughout the journey. One person described this movie as "musician porn" and after this interview, we would agree. This has been a long time in the making and worth every second.
Allen's wife Laura also gives her review of the Bon Jovi concert in Nashville, TN on February 18, 2017.
You can buy the Wrecking Crew DVD at www.wreckingcrewfilm.com and use the code AGESOFROCK to get a discount on the movie and anything else in the store.
In this episode we talk with Kevin Book, a good friend of both Dennis and Allen. Kevin talks about turning his hobby into a musical career in a few of his early bands such as MACH, Hot Ice, London, and BSR. He also talks about how BSR got the opening slot for the 1998 Motley Crue tour and what it was like to be backstage that day. Give a listen as Kevin reminisces about "back in the day" and also talks about when he knew he was ready to stop performing live.
Tonight we talk with Mike Sullivan about the ins and outs of working in terrestrial radio, how things have changed over the years, the best songs to play when you have to poop, and why was John Cougar’s name on a local marquee for so long. Find out these answer and many more on this episode.
In this episode we discuss our 5 favorite and 5 least favorite KISS album covers. What are your favorite and least favorite KISS album covers?
This week we talk to Allen's long time friend Robert "Rockin' Rob" Bloomer about all things Led Zeppelin.
Aerosmith, Poison, Journey, Bon Jovi, & Guns 'N Roses are easily on the setlist for 80s tribute bands, but being 30 years old and playing that music seems a little strange. In this episode, Brian Durbin (aka Mick Jäger) joins us to discuss what it's like to be the lead singer of one of the hottest bands in the midwest, Hairbanger's Ball.
This week we have a fun conversation with musician Jason Lee McKinney. He talks about his musical influences, his musical style, being an independent artist and his upcoming 3 EP Jason Lee McKinney Band release. Did we mention he is also a music professor?
In this episode we discuss musicians who left this world in 2016. We also talk about some of the concerts we saw in 2016 and discussed which were our favorites.
This week we talk about rockin’ Christmas music. Bill also rants about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame again. Even Allen has a rare (and unexpected) rant.
In this episode we discuss a few of the many bands whose members are either touring as two bands under the same name and/or are in a legal battle over ownership and control of the name.
This week we talk about artists who we don't care for but we respect their work. Dennis also talk about another guitar in his collection and Bill tells us about his trip to see Steel Panther.
In this episode we discuss some of our favorite acoustic songs and performances. Dennis also talks about another one of his guitars and Bill tells us about his Black Friday vinyl scores.
In this week's episode we discuss some iconic guitarists and their guitars.
What if the three of us never met? That brings us to the subject of this episode. What if things happened differently in the music world? How would that have changed music history?
This week our good friend Mitch Lafon returns to the show and we discuss what's been going on in his world in 2016, along with his thoughts on what's coming up in 2017.
In this episode we interview the Atlanta based Cheap Trick tribute band, Dream Police. Sit back and enjoy the stories of how they came up with the idea, the gear they use, and other very interesting stories.
We want to thank everyone who has watched and listened to our show in its first year. We truly appreciate it!
From the depths of hell comes a show about the dark side of rock and roll. In this episode we discuss theatrical and shock rock and things that go bump in the night. Welcome to our nightmare.
We believe that good music stirs emotion. This is caused by great songwriting so we are sharing songwriters that have moved us! Oh yeah there's some other stuff thrown in there, KISS stuff, the RRHOF, and another dose of Yank It or Crank It courtesy of Dennis' wife, Kelly.
Allen's wife Laura suggested that we do an episode about 10 songs our wives like, so we did. As we reveal each of the songs we give each song a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
Before we discuss these songs, we briefly touch on current music topics such as the temporary reunion of Dokken, Ratt's reunion (sans Blotzer) on the Monster's of Rock Cruise, and more rumors surfacing of Ace Frehley rejoining KISS in 2017.
While Googling something completely unrelated to this podcast, Allen came across a post from November 2005 and mentioned it to Bill & Dennis. They decided to give their thoughts, in a "Yank It or Crank It" style. Let them know what you think of each song that made the list.
This week we interview Andria Reed and Matt Hyneman of Reed Four. They discuss the process of putting out an album as an indie band.
This week we do another round of Rockpourri. We discuss the latest rock news, new music we listened to last week, and rant. Finally, Dennis and Allen go for something different and talk about the dos and don'ts of communicating with the band and the sound person (with a quick summary of each from Bill).
